Structural Guide

Structural loads, structural analysis and structural design are simply explained with the worked example for easiness of understanding. Element designs with notes and discussions have added to get comprehensive knowledge. Also, construction materials, shoring system design, water retaining structures, crack width calculations, etc. have discussed in addition to other aspects.

Classification of Cement

There are different classification of cement. In this article, we are concentrating on the classification of cement-based on its compressive strength class.

For other types of classification of cement, you may refer to the article ” Cement and Cement Additives“.

The classification discussed in this article is based on the compressive strength at 28 days measured on mortar prism. Testing is carried out as per the BS EN 196-1.

Mainly there are five strength classes

  1. 22.5
  2. 32.5
  3. 42.5
  4. 52.5
  5. 62.5

In addition to the above, there are two more intermediate strength classes.

They are 37.5 and 47.5 and they are for mixture combination of portland cement. They are created with a mixer combination of portland cement (conforming to BS 12) with ground granulated blastfurnace slag (ggbs) (conforming to BS 6699).

The article published in brmca provides some valuable information about cement.
