Destructive Testing of Concrete

DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF CONCRETE AN OVERVIEW
Looking for destructive testing of concrete? Destructive concrete tests are carryout in occasions where the results cannot be obtained by non-destructive testing (NDT) or for further clarification of the test results of non-destructive testing. Initially, when possible, it is common practice to carry out non-destructive testing. When the NTD test cannot be carrying out or if there are not NDT methods for verifications, destructive tests are done.

The most commonly done destructive test is as follows.

  1. Concrete core cutting: when it is required to find the strength of the concrete or when it is required to verify the NDT test results, for example, rebound hammer test results, concrete core is taken for testing. Depending on the location of the element size of the core would differ. Generally, core diameters are in the range of 50 -150mm. this sample will be tested for finding the compressive strength of the concrete.
  2. Pull-out Testing: the test is done to measure the force required to pull out a metal inserted into the concrete. Metal can be cast into the concrete or it can be inserted into the hole drilled into the concrete.
